The last few weeks of the winter term are a busy time for both the Addison Oratorio and Chamber Choirs. On November 15th the Chamber Choir give a rare performance of the Mozart Requiem, with the orchestral reduction arranged for piano duet by Carl Czerny, at St Martin-in-the-Fields, in London. On December 10th the Chamber Choir travel to Vienna, to perform the same work in a very special venue – the Michaelerkirche, the location for the very first performance of the completed fragments of the Requiem at Mozart’s own Requiem Mass on December 10th 1791.
December 7th sees the Oratorio and Chamber Choirs join forces with the Brandenburg Sinfonia at St Peter’s, Acton Green, to give the world premiere of a new work especially written for them by Howard Goodall, ‘The Gravity of Kindness: A Christmas Meditation’, a piece setting both a Mexican lullaby and an old English text, ‘The Coventry Carol’, as well as an incredible poem by the Palestinian/American writer Naomi Shihab Nye. The programme also includes recent Christmas music by Owain Park, Huw Watkins, James Macmillan and Judith Weir, as well as Part 1 of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ and the every popular ‘Hallelujah Chorus’.
